The Lion King 2: Barry Jenkins will direct the sequel to Disney's remake - 3Movierulz, Jon Favreau's 'The Lion King', released in 2019, raised the $1.656 million refrigerators worldwide.

If you liked The Lion King, the 'remake' of the famous Disney classic, released in 2019 and with Jon Favreau (Iron Man, The Jungle Book) as director, you're in luck. The studio has just won the services of filmmaker Barry Jenkins (Moonlight, The Blues of Beale Street) to direct a new version of the title and, at the same time, sequel to Favreau's film. The second part is no surprise, as the film managed to raise the $1.656 million cool at the box office around the world.

"I grew up with these characters by helping my sister raise two little ones during the '90s," Barry Jenkins announced through a statement. "Having the opportunity to work with Disney on expanding this magnificent story of friends, love, and legacy as I expand my work of recounting the lives and souls of people within the African diaspora is a dream come true."

If you remember, you'll remember that Jon Favreau's Lion King ended Simba As King so it remains to be seen when Jenkins' feature film will be set and whether it will include the same characters. Deadline suggests that he will continue to explore their mythology, including the history of the origins of Mufasa, the young monarch's father. Will you have any prequel then? Jeff Nathanson (Get Me If You Can), who has already written the libretto for the first remake, will re-sign the script.

The first part, among others, featured the voices of Donald Glover (Simba), Beyoncé Knowles-Carter (Nala), Seth Rogen (Pumba), Billy Eichner (Timon), Chiwetel Ejiofor (Scar), John Oliver (Zazu), James Earl Jones (Mufasa), John Kani (Rafiki), Alfre Woodard (Sarabi) and Florence Kasumba (Shenzi).

Winner of the Oscar for Best Screenplay adapted by Moonlight - also the winner of the Best Film and Best Supporting Actor awards for Mahershala Ali - Jenkins is also known for the aforementioned Beale Street Blues and is developing a series for Amazon about The Underground Railroad, Colson Whitehead's Pulitzer-winning novel (The Nickel Boys).
