Western Pygmy Blue Butterfly – World’s Smallest Butterfly

Butterflies are one of the most beautiful insects due to their colorful large wings. The butterflies have also maintained a good relationship with humans and many of their species are kept as pets. The fossil records show that butterflies were present on the Earth 200 million years ago and survived many events of mass extinction that mighty dinosaurs couldn’t survive.

There are many species of butterflies and moths that are not clearly identified where to place them; in moths or in butterflies because both look similar. But the currently recorded species of butterflies are around 750. Among them, the western pygmy blue butterflies are the smallest species of all butterflies. The average wingspan of this species is about 12 millimeters.
